Cornelius Yalamu

Graphic Designer - Left Foot

Welcome to Cornnie's Cornner:

Cornelius P. Yalamu (aka - Datii) is an artist, a graphic and multimedia designer through his left foot.

Cornelius (a.k.a Dati) was born in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea's capital on the 20th of April 2005 with a medical condition known as Cerebral Palsy. Despite his limitations to move around freely, Dati challenged himself to be active at home by exploring his creativity. He hopes to be a productive contributor to the socio-economic development of where he lives in the future. He wants to put a smile on everyone's face by giving hope to them.

Cornelius had never gone to any formal school until the age of 13 when he accompanied his dad to Australia to do his PhD studies. That was when he formally attended Glenroy Primary School, for the first time after 13 years. Despite his inability to access basic services including education in PNG, he was still able to learn at home with support from his parents. His mom assisted him with reading and writing lessons using learning kits that were bought by the parents. He also participated in family fellowships at home to read the Bible to learn to read.

With a lot of positive motivation, support, and advice from his parents, Dati had dedicated his time to his computer. Inspired by his dad and motivated by both his parents, he pushes himself every moment. He had gained a lot of knowledge through self-discovery and assisted learning with the help of his parents and wanted to encourage his peers to be positive in life.

UPDATE After 2018:
Since 2018, Dati had been attending Glenroy Specialist School (GSS) in Victoria, Australia. He had the best support from the school and learned so many things within a short period. He credited his recent learning experiences to all his hardworking teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, the school principal, deputy principal, staff of GSS, and all his colleagues at GSS.

Since Dati attended Glenroy Specialists School (GSS), the school had been so helpful to him and he achieved many milestones. Recently, with the help of the sub-school leader, he was able to secure a Scholarship Award with Lightmare Studios as an intern. Lightmare Studio is a game development studio, offering multi-international award-winning strategy Games, Traineeships, and Industry Immersion opportunities. The award is the first-ever Scholarship awarded by Lightmare Studios to students in Australia, something which he will remember forever. Despite challenges that he had earlier faced with accessibility and inadequate support for people like him, Dati's story is one of many that can educate us of hidden capabilities we abled people do not utilize.

This website (designed in early 2017) is a product of Dati's long hours of commitment to shaping his craft.
